Dockside Monitoring
ACD is the largest monitoring company on the east coast with over 100+ certified Dockside Monitors and Field Technicians throughout Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and New England. Our monitors and observers are deployed by our operations center to meet fishing vessels at dockside to provide catch verification services.
The fishing industry can be seasonal in specific regions and monitor deployments are based on actual fishing activity, which may occur at different times during the day or night. ACD is always interested in hiring people in the local communities who are seeking part time or seasonal work that involves being on the wharf and working with the fishermen and processors. For an individual to become a certified Dockside Monitor they must meet the following requirements:
- High School completion or equivalent knowledge/experience in the fishing industry
- Valid citizenship or immigrant status
- No violations of any Fisheries Regulations
- Meets conflict of interest requirements (ex. Cannot be a harvester, buyer, or processor of fish)
- Satisfactory physical condition to perform monitoring duties
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Be mature, responsible and reliable
- Attend a training program and pass a written examination
